Privacy
Aftermate turns your chess games into stories. This page says what that means for your data: what stays in your browser, what reaches a server, what a third party sees, and how to get rid of any of it.
What we store
Only what the product needs to work.
- Your email address, and the display name and avatar your sign-in provider gives us. We use these to identify your account and nothing else.
- The games you import, as a normalised move list. We keep them so a story can be rewritten without you pasting the game again.
- The analysis of each game: the engine evaluations and the events we derived from them.
- The stories we generate, the universes you build, and the characters in them.
- A record of each story generation, so daily limits can be counted.
What never leaves your browser
The chess engine runs on your device. Stockfish is downloaded to your browser and every position is evaluated there, so no game is analysed on a server. That is a cost decision as much as a privacy one, and it means an imported game you never turn into a story is never uploaded at all.
Who else sees your data
- Supabase hosts the database and handles sign-in. Your account and everything attached to it lives there.
- Vercel hosts the site and runs the code that answers your requests.
- A language model provider writes the stories. It receives the events our analyser derived, the names of the characters in your universe, and any brief you wrote. It does not receive your game, your email, or your account.
We do not sell your data, and there is no advertising or third-party analytics on this site.
What other people can see
A story is private when it is created. You choose whether to change that, per story:
- Private: only you can open it.
- Unlisted: anyone with the link can read it, and search engines are asked not to index it.
- Public: anyone can read it, and it may be indexed.
A shared story shows the story, the player names on the game, the result, the opening and the move count. It never exposes a game you have not shared, and the move list behind an unshared game is not reachable by anyone but you.
Cookies
One cookie, holding your sign-in session. It is what keeps you signed in between visits. There are no tracking or advertising cookies.
Deleting things
Every story has a Delete control on its own page, which removes the story and its sharing link at once.
Your account has one too, at the foot of the account page. It removes the account, every game you imported, every story written from them, every universe you built and the record of what you have used. It happens immediately, we keep no copy, and nothing about it can be undone. You do not have to write to anybody and we do not ask why.
A subscription is the one exception, because it lives with the payment provider rather than with us. Cancel it first, or you would keep being charged with nothing left here to stop it from.
Children
Aftermate is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly create accounts for them.
