Terms
Using Aftermate means agreeing to what follows. It is short because the service is small: you bring chess games, we write stories from them.
The service
Aftermate reads a chess game you provide, analyses it, and generates a written story from what it found. An account is required. There is no guarantee that the service will always be available, and features may change.
What it costs
The free tier writes 3 stories a day and costs nothing. Aftermate Plus raises that to 50 and adds custom universes, your own brief and longer stories.
Plus will cost $5.99 a month, or $59.99 for a year. It is not open yet and nothing on this site takes payment today; the price is published so that nobody has to agree to a number they have not seen.
Your games and your stories
Chess moves are facts and nobody owns them. You keep whatever rights you have in the games you upload, and you grant us only the permission needed to store them, analyse them and generate stories for you.
The stories generated for you are yours to keep, publish and share. We make no claim of ownership over them. Because they are machine-generated, we cannot promise they are unique, and a similar game may produce a similar story.
What a story is and is not
Stories are fiction. The chess facts underneath them are computed by an engine and are as accurate as that engine is; the characters, dialogue, motives and events in the prose are invented and are not claims about anybody real.
Where a game involves named people, those names are taken from the game record you provided. Do not upload games with names you do not have the right to publish, and do not publish a story in a way that suggests a real person said or did what the fiction says they did.
Using it fairly
- Do not use Aftermate to produce content that harasses, defames or impersonates anybody.
- Do not attempt to bypass the generation limits, or automate the service beyond ordinary use.
- Do not upload material you do not have the right to upload.
- Do not attempt to reach data belonging to other accounts.
We may suspend or remove an account that does these things, and we may remove a published story that does.
Ending it
You can stop using Aftermate at any time, and delete your account yourself from the account page, as described in the privacy policy. We may close an account that breaks these terms, and we may discontinue the service, in which case we will give reasonable notice so you can take your stories with you.
Liability
Aftermate is provided as it is, without warranties. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from using it, and our total liability is limited to what you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Governing law and contact
